The
Remains
Boston’s
legendary band, The Remains, was formed by Barry Tashian,
Vern Miller, Bill Briggs and Chip Damiani in 1964 while
they were students at Boston University. Within a couple
of months of their formation, the band was playing to
standing room only crowds and signed a recording contract
with Epic Records. Known for their dynamic stage performances,
they performed on the 1965 Ed Sullivan Christmas Show,
NBC's Hullabaloo and were the opening act on The Beatles
1966 American Tour.
In
many rock n' roll circles they are considered to be the
founders of Garage Rock. A British reviewer of their Sixties
recordings recently wrote: "The Remains stuff is
stunning, swaggering, relaxed, confident-everything rock
n' roll should be" and The Chicago Tribune said:
"The Remains explode in a torrent of melody, searing
guitar leads and furious drumming". Several years
ago, Jon Landau, famed popular music critic and Bruce
Springsteen manager wrote, “The Remains were how
you told a stranger about Rock and Roll.”
Since
1998 The Remains have been playing reunion shows to packed
houses
in
Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Boston, New York, Los
Angeles, and Las Vegas. A few years ago, The Remains gathered
in a Nashville recording studio and record twelve new
songs. There latest CD “Movin On” is the product
of these recording sessions.
The
Remains recently spend several days in Los Angeles performing
and filming a documentary on the band directed by award
winning TV director, Michael Stich. The Remains documentary
is scheduled for release sometime during summer 2008.
